Two ski centers making up one resort halfway between Oslo and Bergen, Geilo has 20 ski lifts serving 39 Alpine slopes of varying length and difficulty. Ask for one of the new apartments as some of the buildings are brand new! And after a snowfall you don't even have to leave the marked runs to get a taste of that fresh powder feel beneath your skis. Even if Geilo is a small mountain village, it has many good, high quality places to eat, from nice lunch cafes to gourmet restaurants, from american diner to several restaurants serving international cuisine - chinese, indian, turkish or japanese sushi In this section we present our favorite restaurants. The resort is quiet, especially during the week, so if you enjoy skiing on perfectly groomed, uncrowded slopes, Geilo will keep you happy for days. The rain only made matters worse as the stuff just spread and was not washed away. When the party does get started, Off-Pist and Recepten are the best places to be. You're a bit off the main road of Geilo. Everything from the accommodation to the childcare, the off-slope activities and the ski schools is tailored to ensuring families get the most from their holiday here. Its scenery is impressive: endless snow-covered fells bathed in that uniquely Scandinavian winter light.

This itinerary hits Norway's key summer spots and activities using various means of transportation for a true Nordic experience. The hospitality is exceptional, and what's more, children under six ski free. There is a fully stocked kitchens- large fridge … We stayed overnight in off season. Off the slopes and apres ski Away from the downhill slopes Geilo really comes into its own as an all-round winter resort: dog sled safaris, horse-drawn sleigh rides, ice-fishing, snowshoe walks, tobogganing and the year-round Treetop Walk adventure park are all great fun, and if you've never tried cross-country skiing, Geilo is a great place to have a go on the long, skinny skis it's almost as common as walking in rural Norway! This place is far larger than I expected, its got many buildings that have two floors of bungalow style living apartments. .

From there, take another train ride—one of the most scenic in the world—to Aurland, a speedboat to Skjerdal for spectacular fjord views, and a ferry towards Bergen to finish the trip in Norway's second largest city. Also featured are 135 miles of cross-country tracks. We had trouble closing the windows and some rain came in, despite our best efforts. With plenty of time — driving through mountains and fjords, hopping on ferries, and navigating single-lane roads is never quick — the entire country should be on your list. Overview Geilo ski resort is a traditional and charming village situated in a wide valley midway between Bergen and Oslo on the edge of Norway's largest national park, the Hardangervidda, which is also the largest mountain plateau in Northern Europe. You get a package with your bedding, which means you have to do the beds yourself and do a final clean of the apartment which was not stated when I booked the room through a 3rd party or when I checked in.

Start off in Oslo where you'll tour the capital before taking a train to the mountain village of Geilo. You enter up into the buildings from underground so you have to find the right doors up to the right buildings. And for something exotic, on the Hardangervidda plateau you can try kite-skiing where you let the wind pull you across the snowy fells. First-timers are well catered for with gentle nursery slopes, easy progressive runs and an excellent ski school with English-speaking instructors. Small, but fully self-catering including fridge, dishwasher, etc. Most of the bars, restaurants and cafes are on the Geilo side of the valley. For lunch cafes, skicafes and mountain cafes, select Cafes from the menu above.

You either have to walk to town 30mins down and 1hr+ on the way up or get a taxi to take you both ways, or drive down the narrow winding road again. You will definitely need a car if visiting here, though. There are a few sheep and a cow or two walking around, They dont do anything to clean the signs of the animals off the main road which is a shame, It was quite the obstacle course to get to our rooms. No food delivery -as it is not the done thing in smaller towns. You're going to want to visit towns you can't pronounce, places your friends don't know exist, and vistas you won't find on Instagram. No restaurant as it is being built at the moment. And the drive between Geilo and Flam.

Geilolia center generally has easier green and blue runs, while Slaatta center offers mostly blue and red runs. The winding staircase was not appreciated by those older in our group but I found it ok. I am 5foot and I was able to touch the ceiling whilst standing and my elbows were still bent. Despite its low altitude 800m , its location and climate make it extremely snowsure, and while there is terrain to suit all levels, Geilo is a resort best-suited to beginners, intermediates and, especially, families. The rooms are for very short people.
